  • Today, there was a substantial overhaul of the Cabinet appointed by Prime Minister Mark Carney on March 14, 2025, prior to the federal election.
  • Eleven Ministers were not renewed from their previous positions.
  • Former Trudeau Ministers still in key portfolios: Champagne in Finance, LeBlanc as Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Canada-US Trade, Anand now at Foreign Affairs (Global Affairs Canada), Freeland at Transport, Fraser at Justice, MacKinnon as House Leader, Joly now at Industry [responsible for Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED)], Guilbeault at Canadian Identity and Culture (Heritage), Anandasangaree at Public Safety, McGuinty at Defence, and Hajdu back at Jobs and Families [Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)].
  • Joël Lightbound is now the Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement, a highly impactful portfolio.  
  • A number of newly elected MPs have been appointed to key cabinet roles, notably Tim Hodgson at Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN), Marjorie Michel at Health, Lena Metlege Diab at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Gregor Robertson at Housing and Infrastructure, Mandy Gull-Masty at Indigenous Services, Eleanor Olszewski at Emergency Management and PrairesCan, Evan Solomon at AI and Digital Innovation, among others.  
  • This cabinet has two tiers - Ministers as well as Secretaries of State, who will have specific policy areas of focus and will report to a more Senior Minister.
