It was less than a year ago the last time Governor General Julie Payette delivered a Speech from the Throne on behalf of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
According to reports, Canadians should expect a “hefty” Throne Speech tomorrow afternoon. The Prime Minister has stated his intention to build back better. It is anticipated this will include:
Commitments to curb the immediate health crisis while providing economic support for individuals and hard-hit sectors affected by the pandemic;
Boosting the 'green economy;' and,
Creating a “resilient and strong Canada” – a longer term economic agenda for the country’s recovery.
The Throne Speech has also led to speculation about an upcoming fall election.
Opposition leaders have been clear on their demands to consider supporting the government’s plan.
The Conservatives, with newly elected leader, Erin O’Toole have stated they will be pushing for increased COVID-19 testing across Canada and support for small business.
The NDP is seeking advanced funding for long-term care homes, the creation of Pharmacare programs and universal childcare.
Canadians will hear from all parties tomorrow as leaders look to present their ideas on how to best lead Canada out of the COVID pandemic.
